Saved By Grace (By: Mike Sherman)

Perhaps no doctrine is made clearer in the New Testament than the fact that we are saved by the grace of God. If not for the grace of God there is no hope for any of us. If not for the grace of God we would remain without any kind of hope in this world. Ephesians 2:11-12 -Therefore, remember that formerly you who are Gentiles by birth and called “uncircumcised” by those who call themselves “the circumcision” (which is done in the body by human hands)– (12) remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world.
Only by the grace of God we now enjoy a close relationship with our heavenly Father due to the great sacrifice of His son who was willing to die in our place. Ephesians 2:13 -But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
We do well to remember back to the time when we were separated from God, without hope, without peace, and without the joy that ONLY God can provide. Titus 3:3- At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another.
Something happened in our lives to turn us around and put us on a different path leading to a much different place- to an eternal home that Jesus promised he’s gone on to prepare for those who love Him and remain faithful to Him.
Titus 3:4-7- But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, (5) he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, (6) whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, (7) so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.
The salvation we’ve discovered and enjoy as Christians is only available because of the saving grace of God that’s been revealed to us. A salvation made available by God’s kindness, love, and mercy toward us (his straying children). We now stand before God justified (just as if we hadn’t sinned) because of God’s grace and our faith in the acceptable sacrifice of His Son- Jesus Christ. We can now live each day with the “hope of eternal life” Paul reminds us of in verse 7.
I hope and pray we can rejoice daily as we ponder and appreciate God’s saving grace and the difference it’s made in our lives. May God use us to help others experience the same “Saving Grace” that we enjoy and cherish as Christians.
