THE GIFT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT (By: Mike Sherman)

An exhaustive study of the Holy Spirit could never be accomplished in a short bulletin article like this, but we can consider a few Biblical Truths considering the Gift of the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit was promised as a gift to all who confess Jesus as Lord, repent of their sins and are baptized into Christ. Acts 2:36-39- “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.” (37) When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” (38) Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (39) The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off–for all whom the Lord our God will call.”
The Holy Spirit is sent to enter our hearts when we obey the gospel and God forgives our sins. Paul writes the following to Christians- Galatians 4:6-7- Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” (7) So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.
Paul refers to our physical bodies as a temple in which the Holy Spirit of God dwells. 1 Corinthians 6:17-20 – But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit. (18) Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. (19) Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; (20) you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.
The Holy Spirit within us helps us during times of weakness- Romans 8:25-27 But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently. (26) In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. (27) And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.
According to this scripture the Holy Spirit helps us communicate with God as we pray to Him are unsure exactly what to say or how to express what is on our heart. Don’t give up or doubt that God hears and understands because we have the Holy Spirit interceding on our behalf.- Ephesians 6:18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
