The Sacrificial Christian Life (By: Mike Sherman)

As Christians certainly we have come to appreciate the perfect sacrifice of Christ on our
behalf. We place our faith in His sacrifice on our behalf to provide forgiveness of our sins and
reconciliation with our Father in heaven. The fact is we’re called to not only appreciate the
great sacrifice of Christ but to also live sacrificial lives ourselves.
Christ was crucified for us and we are crucified with Christ, putting to death our sinful
nature and now living to bring honor and glory to our Savior.
Gal 2:20-21- I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. (21) I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!”
As we continue on living out our short time on this earth we now strive to offer
ourselves as an acceptable living sacrifice to God.
Rom. 12:1-2- Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God–this is your true and proper worship. (2) Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will.
All our energy, talents, abilities, strengths are now made available to God to be used for His
good purpose.
Rom. 6:13-14 – Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness. (14) For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.
We are now referred to as a Holy Priesthood offering spiritual sacrifices to God.
1 Pet. 2:4-5 – As you come to him, the living Stone–rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him– (5) you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
Our praise offered to God is an acceptable sacrifice to God as well as doing the good
works God intends for us to do in order to be a blessing to others.
Heb. 13:15-16 – Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise–the fruit of lips that openly profess his name. (16) And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.
What a great blessing as a Christian to enjoy and appreciate the great sacrifice on our
behalf as well as live the sacrificial life we’re called to as we offer ourselves as a living sacrifice
to God!
